KWIDC

Key West, once a haven for artists across creative disciplines, is ready to reclaim its cultural spotlight on dance with the launch of the Key West International Dance Company (KWIDC). Founded by acclaimed dancer, director, writer, performer and visionary Pamela Stephenson Connolly, KWIDC promises to contribute to the island’s artistic spirit with a groundbreaking inaugural season.

Renowned Performer Pamela Stephenson Connolly Establishes KWIDC

In a bold move to cultivate a thriving contemporary dance community, Pamela Stephenson Connolly — celebrated for her diverse career in dance, comedy, and international performance — has announced the founding of the Key West International Dance Company.

Pamela, who made Key West her home in 2016 after many years in New York City, brings a wealth of diverse experience, having trained and performed internationally in ballet, tango, and many other styles.

KWIDC Announces Debut Season Featuring Five Spectacular Original Productions

KWIDC’s first season features an eclectic lineup of five original productions, each showcasing Pamela’s innovative vision and dedication to artistic integrity. All performances will be held in the theater of the San Carlos Institute, a historic landmark in Key West renowned for its architectural elegance and cultural significance.

The season kicks off with the world premiere of Gate 24B, an Argentine tango spectacle set amid the chaos of Newark Airport, highlighting the serendipity of connection — even in the most unlikely of places.

Next, building on its sold-out 2022 Key West run, KWIDC presents Bum Farto The Musical, a hilarious romp through the island’s colorful history, celebrating its quirky charm through high-energy dance numbers and unforgettable tunes.

Just in time for Halloween, the tone of the season shifts with Dark Night of the Soul, a Renaissance-era exploration of mysticism and spirituality inspired by the works of Spanish mystics, with stunning music by Dan Krysa.

From that shimmering dark night, it’s a turn to Lambada is Dead — Long Live Lambada!, a sultry murder mystery tracing the rise, fall, and rebirth of cultural craze. Filled with passion, betrayal, and infectious beats, the story features Key West resident and Brazilian dance sensation Braz dos Santos.

To close the season, Fiesta de Navidad delivers a festive extravaganza to ignite the holiday spirit. With world-class Latin dance and vibrant costumes, this joyful celebration also offers the opportunity for audience members of all ages to dance on stage with a live band!

Supporting the Arts in Key West

KWIDC's mission centers around nurturing local talent and enriching Key West's cultural fabric.  The company, which includes 16 full-time residents, seven part-time residents, and five associate artists, reflects Pamela’s dedication to creating a supportive environment where artists can thrive.

"Being deeply connected to the Key West dance community, I'm thrilled to launch KWIDC with these five spectacular shows," Pamela says. "This season isn't just about showcasing diverse dance styles — it's also about celebrating Key West's rich cultural heritage. I encourage everyone to come along and join us for this exciting debut season."
